Tompire River Basin Walk
Our journey begins and ends at the newly built Agro-Tourism Center in the charming village of Cumana situated on the picturesque North-East coast of Trinidad. The Agro-Tourism Center is a place of true hospitality. It is a place where the visitor will feel part of the village life. Our comfortable walk carries us first through agricultural land planted with different tropical fruit trees as well as abandoned cocoa estates and tropical forest until we reach the meeting point of the Narang and Tompire rivers. A very beautiful spot. From here we walk down the majestic Tompire river with its crystal clear, blue-green pools teeming with aquatic life. Its banks are lushly forested and are the home to different wildlife. This refreshing river walk will emerge you into a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds and smells and reward you with serenity and peace. We will have a swim at one of the numerous pools before returning back through the forest.
Duration of walk: 2 ½ hours Level: easy Galera Tour and La Forêt Beach
An interesting drive through lush forested areas and estates. We pass beautiful rivers and quiet villages along an awe-inspiring coast with dramatic sharp cliffs and protected bays. We then arrive at the most north-eastern village of Toco where we start an easy, comfortable 1 ¼ hour walk through verdant forest and estates. You will learn about different species of plants and trees and their usages. Our final destination is a beautiful, secluded beach called La Forêt where you can bathe, relax and enjoy the superb view of the coast before walking back. We then will visit the Community Radio Station at Toco, the only one in the country, a folk museum and a 100+ year old lighthouse. At the radio station you have an opportunity to talk live on air. The visit to the Toco Folk Museum will introduce you to the country life with its social, economic and ecological dimensions. Finally we will go to the lighthouse situated on Galera point where you can marvel at the magnificent view of the coast and the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

San Souci, a village nestled in a beautiful corner of the North-East Coast, is the capital for surfers. It is also the food basket of the country and the starting point of our journey. A journey that will reward you with stunning views of the rugged coast, lush vegetation and beautiful banana plantations. We cross many different ravines with their own small but charming waterfalls. To the end of this comfortable walk we get a glimpse of the village of Grande Rivière with its beautiful bay. Finally a swim in the cool waters of the majestic Grande Rivière River as well as a dip in the Caribbean Sea awaits you.
