The Toco Foundation and other civil society organizations including the NGO Seal the Deal will present a number of ideas on combating the devastating effects of climate change at a panel discussion during CHOGM. The panel will be held on Saturday 28th November in the Spoken Word Pavilion at the People’s Space in the Queen’s Park Savannah, from 2:30 to 4.00pm, and will also consider climate change’s effects and adaptation strategies from the perspective of gender.
The People’s Space is a concept championed by global civil society representatives over many years, and is one of the civil society events associated with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. All events at the People’s Space are free and open to the public.
The Toco Foundation will lay out its long-term plans for a rainwater harvesting project in the Toco area, as a simple and low-cost solution to the water problem.
Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting and filtering water from rooftops, paved or unpaved areas during the rainy season—or whenever water is abundant—and storing it for future needs. This water can then be used for a variety of purposes: drinking, agriculture, industry, or even improving the water quality in groundwater aquifers.
Presenters at the panel will include Steve Cupid Theodore for the Toco Foundation, on Rainwater Harvesting, and Gia Gaspard Taylor on Gender and Climate Change.
